X-Mouse Button Control 2.20.5

The mouse has been a staple computer peripheral for about thirty years. Its basic functions have been established no matter what new ergonomic designs have appeared over the years. In turn, almost everybody knows how to handle a mouse and considers it easy and intuitive. Still, in case you don't agree with the majority, there is another option for you.

X-Mouse Button Control can completely change the button configuration of your mouse. By attributing a new function from a drop-down list. X-Mouse supports up to 5 buttons which can be set up as a default profile, but can also be reconfigured to work differently depending on which window is active at the time. For example, you can set up right click to work as a Back button in Firefox, but still be a right click everywhere else.

If that is not enough, there are layers for you to bind multiple controls to the same button. For example, you might want the buttons to behave differently while you play a video game than when you work on a spreadsheet. Layers can be named ! What's not that great is that the documentation for X-Mouse is not very accessible. Instead of having an embedded help document, X-Mouse invites you to visit its homepage and forums. Still, you can quickly experiment to find out what does what. What it might be nice for me to mention though is that in order to access the window while running, you will need to right click on its icon in the notification area and select "Setup".

Conclusion

X-Mouse is more useful if you're using a mouse with more than 3 buttons (up to 5 to be exact). The lack of proper documentation might turn you off but in essence X-Mouse is fairly easy to use and can be helpful in the right circumstances.
